How Did You Get Started?

I started to train with weights at high school to bulk up for rugby. One season I got injured and could not play so I put more time and emphasis on the weight training and met a few competitors at the local gym. Despite my early beliefs that I was too small to compete my training partners talked me into doing my first competitions. My first show was the IFBB u/21 Mr Southcoast. Much to my surprise I won this easily and went on to place second in the IFBB u/21 Mr Australia a few weeks later. In the end I found bodybuilding to be a more rewarding pastime than rugby so I stuck with it, going on to win at state and national level. When I first went on stage I loved the feeling and the confidence it gave me and since I never looked back.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

I don't think one plan in particular stands out. I've used many workout plans and each one was best suited to a particular stage of my physical development or my competition schedule. At the moment I train everything once a week over four days, except arms and calves which I train twice as these are the bodyparts I want to bring up. I will generally do between 9-12 sets for major bodyparts and 7-10 sets for smaller ones. I vary my exercises depending on how I am feeling and what my training partner wants to do. I think the most important part of any training regime is good form and high intensity.

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

In Australia we only have a limited range of supplements available due to very strict food and drug laws. The supplements we do have here are often overpriced and out of date. However in the off season I used a local brand (Southern Blue) of Creatine which worked well and some tribulus. Before a heavy workout I take 50-200mg caffeine which gives a good kick. The only supplement I use year round is a whey protein powder usually either Worldwide Pure Protein or Musashi LG1.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

I love bodybuilding because I find it very personally fulfilling. The results or lack of you get are solely the result of your own individual choices. I also found that it has helped boost my confidence and self-esteem. The fact that you can see the results of your hard training also appeals to me. It has allowed me to meet many people from a lot of different walks of life.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

This year I won the overall NABBA NSW state title and placed second in my division at the nationals. So next year I hope to gain the required size and try to win my division in the NABBA Australian titles. Hopefully soon I will be able to gain some sort of a sponsorship to help pay for the nutritional side of the sport.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

The one tip I would give them would be to be patient and never sacrifice form for weight or ego.

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

My favourite bodybuilders are Kevin Levrone, Paul Dillet and Momo Benaziza. Kevin Levrone because I think he has a good package of size and symmetry especially early on in his career. Dillet because he is just a mass monster with with freaky vascularity and Benaziza because he was one of the most dedicated and focused bodybuilders, even if it did contribute to his premature death.
