How Did You Get Started?

Back in Junior High School I was really involved in Martial Arts. I became a sensei at 15 and trained under one of the worlds top Karate instructors, Tak Kubota. He taught discipline, hard work and respect for mind and body. I liked the respect you got in the dojo but out in the streets know one knows you're a black belt. I had a good friend who was a bodybuilder who was really big, lean and strong. I admired him and started working out with him in high school and at the YMCA. For many years I was more of a power lifter and got really bulky and big. It took me many years of lifting to realize I was just a weightlifter and not a bodybuilder. I started training hard all my weak body parts and doing cardio, I got lean and still kept most of my strength. I have been lifting weights for nearly 15 years but only the last 2 or 3 years have I been bodybuilding.

I competed in my first show June 22 at the 2002 NPC California Collegiate and had the absolute time of my life. I was at an unbelievable bodyweight of 143lbs and won the Novice Lightweight, Open Lightweight and Overall Novice title. It was one of the proudest moments of my life and the promoter Lonnie Teper and all the contestants were just the greatest bunch of people. The experience was so awesome, I can't wait to do another show next year.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

Six days on and one off works best for me. I also like to do cardio at least five days per week for at least 30-40 minutes. I like the stairmaster or gauntlet the best because it is intense and you really get a sweat going. I like to hit all major muscle groups once a week, arms sometimes twice. I like training calves at least 2 or 3 times per week.

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

Protein and glutamine have given me the best gains. Sometimes I take Creatine and use thermogenics to burn fat. I also like high protein low carb bars like Nitro-Tech in between meals.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

Lately bodybuilding has been an obsession for me. Being a P.E teacher I don't work long hours or weekends. I have quite a bit of spare time in the day so doing cardio, eating clean and training uses up a lot of my spare time productively. I also have a chance to make a positive impact on many young peoples lives. People look up to bodybuilders and respect them for their hard work and discipline.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

If you look in the mirror and are happy with what you see, then don't change your diet or training. But if you want to make gains you have to make changes.

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

Lee and Cathy Priest are with out a doubt my favorite bodybuilders. Lee is huge, ripped and in top condition for every show. Cathy is beautiful and in awesome shape. How cool is it for these two to be married? They diet together, train together and understand each other and what it takes to compete and win. They seem so down to earth and real. I am glad to finally see Lee get the recognition he deserves. I can't wait to see him at this year's Olympia!
