How Did You Get Started?
As a teen, I was always under weight, which in turn led to being picked on of course. I could eat anything and never gain a pound. I was a child model and at age 12 I was told by my agent to lose weight and being 90ish lbs I declined and quit modeling for their agency the moment my contract was up, which lead me to avoid the scale entirely until now!
At the age of 18 years, I became pregnant with my beautiful Carrera. I intended to be fit during the pregnancy, until a very sever car accident made me unable to continue working out for months. I kept eating as I desired and I am a person that never owned a weight scale so I didn't see the immense weight gain until my 6 month checkup. The doctor asked how I was feeling and said I was gaining more weight than normal but that was ok seeing as the baby was healthy and right on track. He didn't tell me to change my diet, which at the time consisted of pizza, soda, and tons of bread. I ended up being 2 weeks overdue and going from 98lbs~ pre pregnancy to over 180lbs term!!! WOW huge gain!!!
I didn't start working out until I moved to a small town in Colorado and took up jogging. Seeing as I still didn't own a scale, I can tell by looking in photos. My weight dramatically decreased. I later gained 40lbs back when I met and married my wonderful husband of 4 years now. I tried eating like he does and it seems he has a much better metabolism than myself as he remained fit and I gained swiftly!
I saw a photo of myself and decided that I was very disappointed with my appearance, so I decided it was time for change. I started with a kickboxing class two nights a week with no change in diet. When I got serious about fitness, I realized that diet was more important than ever!
I picked up a copy of my 1st Oxygen magazine in Feb of 2010 and I saw a woman who is now one of my body role models - Stacey Oster Thompson - who even went to the same high school as I did. I saw how she wasn't just thin, but tone and I saw that muscles were sexy. So I hit the weight room with some tips from Bodybuilding.com and Oxygen Magazine which have blossomed over the course of a year into a great workout routine.
In 2010, I made the decision to enter a Bikini Competition in the NPC (National Physique Committee). So, now my new goal was to decrease my body fat percentage and increase my lean muscle mass.
I started with a 6-day-a-week cardio regimen and a 4-day-a-week weight training program! I became a "gym junkie"!
I saw the weight come off and I entered my first competition in August of 2010 "The Warrior Classic". I had a great experience; I didn't place, but I found a new love in competing.
I am planning on doing my 2nd show in April of 2011. I am now honored to be a sponsored athlete for needtobuildmuscle.com and proudly use their supplements. I also take great pride in my modeling which, after I became fit again, has taken off like a rocket! I began modeling for Serenity Fine Clothing in 2008, after my initial weight loss, and regained my confidence.
I feel truly blessed every day to be so driven in my pursuit of fitness! I have a very supportive family that believes in me and my ability to reach my goals. Thank you for reading and I hope this inspires someone else.
