How Did You Get Started?
I started out as a sedentary, overweight 22 year old! Like many young women, after the high school sports were over and I started my first year of college, I quickly started to gain weight. At 5'3" and 180 pounds it took me 18 minutes to "run" my first mile. I knew something needed to change, so I started to take baby steps into a healthy lifestyle, making small obtainable goals as I went along.
I vowed to walk my dogs for at least a mile everyday as well as replace soda for water. Within the first weeks of making these little changes I could already feel a difference in my pants. However, the biggest change was the increasing amount of energy I felt. At times when I would have previously felt like napping, I found myself walking my dogs for an extra mile instead.
From there the habit grew and a thirst for knowledge on all things fitness and nutrition coupled with the changes I was feeling fueled my motivation. This led me to take a nutrition class which gave me a real understanding of the how, what and why certain nutrients are needed to fuel the body. The first 3-4 months was all about creating a foundation to live a lasting healthy lifestyle that would stay with me for the rest of my life. Here's my motto; set goals, keep goals, achieve goals and continue to make new ones.
