How Did You Get Started?
I began working out about 5 years ago. I mainly did it for social reasons, and soon met my now husband of three years. It wasn't until I met him that I took more interest in how the body can change through weight lifting. He worked at the health club that I was a member of and introduced me to one of the owners who was also a trainer. She took me under her wing and taught me the correct way to lift weights and how to change my eating habits to lose weight. Once she got a hold of me, there was no turning back. I saw myself changing from month to month and with that progress, I wanted more and more. She then mentioned to me that I should train for a figure competition, and that's where the edge to compete came from. I love to see the transformation that takes place during the months leading up to competition day. And getting on stage to show off the hard work is the best self esteem booster in the world.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I train one body part a day. In the off season I train heavy and I go lighter with lots of drop sets and burn outs during the in season. I work my calves and abs two days a week and I do cardio anywhere from 3 to 5 days a week.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
I typically do a 'zone' type diet throughout the year during the off season. But during the in season I do a lot of three day low to no carb and start adding them back in on Thursdays. This helps me drop my bodyfat faster so I can see where I'm at before contest time.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
I love metanabol and Jungle warfare for strength and muscle gains. Xpand has been my favorite pre-workout supplement. I get a really good pump with it.
Why Do You Love Fitness?
I love the self esteem and confidence that comes from it. What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I am going to the Jr. USA and Nationals this year. I eventually would like to earn my pro card and make it to the Arnold and Olympia. I want to have my own website to help other competitors out there reach their personal goals and also hold workshops in my home town for contest prep. And who wouldn't love to grace the cover of a fitness magazine after all this hard work!
What One Tip Would You Give Other Fitness Competitors?
Keep your head up and smile. The diet is probably the hardest part of competing, but you get the biggest reward in the end, the self respect knowing you did it.
Who Are Your Favorite Fitness Competitors/Bodybuilders?
Of course I admire Jenny Lynn. I also love Julie Lohre. She has great teaching skills. Her posing video is one of the first ones I bought and is by far the best. (Thanks Julie!)
