How Did You Get Started?
My husband is a Canadian Champion Bodybuilder (Mr. Junior Canada in 2003) and competed up to the world level placing 7th in the world. I used to train before but had no idea what I was doing really now that I look back.
His passion for health and fitness wore off on me quickly and we now share this healthy lifestyle and passion together. I went to watch a bodybuilding & figure competition in 2005 and it made me want to compete, which I did twice in 2006 before I took time off to improve my physique to compete again in Fall of 2008.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
Tuesday: Shoulders & Abs
Wednesday: Back
Thursday: Arms
Friday: Low Rep Quads
Saturday: Off Sunday: Hamstrings
I do no cardio in the off season. 12 weeks out from a contest I start with 20 minutes, 1 day and work up to 45 minutes, 1 day by 2-3 weeks out and maintain.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
Meal 2: Post Workout
Meal 3: Meal 4: Meal 5: What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
Whey Isolate post workout has helped me the most to gain muscle and lose fat as well. Glutamine helps me hold onto muscle when dieting down for a competition as well as BCAA's. Multivitamins are also important for overall health.
Why Do You Love Fitness?
I love how through fitness you can achieve goals, feel great about yourself and become a healthier, stronger person. Fitness goals allow you to see how other goals you once thought were impossible are not any longer.
Many of our personal training clients start off with only wanting to lose weight but they often fall deeper and deeper into the "health nut" phase - it's addictive.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I plan on competing at the Natural Ontario Championships in 2009 in hopes of qualifying for the Natural Canada's in 2010 and also hopefully the Worlds in 2010.
I also will be writing more books on topics of health and nutrition (published "Abs on the Go" in 2008) and continue to write weekly articles for my website and blog posts for my blog.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Fitness Competitors?
I would advise them to prep for the contests carefully, always being aware of their health first. Winning a show is not worth messing up your hormone levels or your metabolism!
Also to have fun during your prep and the day off as much as possible, it's a choice to compete, nobody is forcing it upon you.
Who Are Your Favorite Fitness Competitors/Bodybuilders?
Gina Aliotti, Jessica Paxson-Putnam and my husband Jean-Luc Boissonneault.
