How Did You Get Started?

It was July '07 as I boarded a plane, I told myself this is it! As I sat there in the small airline seat in my tight fitting suit coat. I told myself changes needed to be made; I was an athlete all my life, now I was a middle-aged business man sitting on this plane feeling old and fat! When I made a sale I ate to celebrate, when I was unhappy, h-ll I think I will have some cake. I had realized, I was an emotional eater.

I had always planned my work day, I knew what customers I would be visiting, and I had a business plan. My diet & fitness program had no structure or organization. I would go to the gym and "wing it," with no goal or purpose. I had heard of Body for Life and I bought the book. I followed the program exactly as outlined and in 84 days I lost 34 lbs of fat, and put on increased muscle. My strength and fitness level skyrocketed... I was hooked! My body went thru an amazing transformation.

The program calls for three weight training sessions per week, alternating with three cardiovascular workouts. I performed compound movements, and tried to push the intensity and outdo the previous workout. The cardio session called for interval training, striving to obtain a person best every workout. If followed correctly the program is very effective and you will transform your body. Now, I had finished Body for Life, I was at 46 years old in the best shape of my life!

It was now October '07 and after seeing the changes in body & mental outlook, I knew the Arizona Copper Classic Bodybuilding Championships was a show I wanted to do. The show was held every year in March. I told myself, "You can do this contest." It's not that far off and gave me a strong desire to continue to train and eat clean. I entered the show and placed third in the 40-49 division. I had a great time and made some new friends.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

Beginning October '07 - I begin training one body part per day, followed by abs (I do abs everyday) and 30 minutes of walking on a treadmill at an incline.

    Breakfast -
    Oatmeal, ISO 100
    Animal Pak

    Mid Morning -
    Dyma-lean MRP, raisins

    Lunch -
    Turkey Burger, salad, Vegetables

    Mid afternoon -
    Turkey Burger, sweet potato
    Animal Pak

    Early Evening-
    Dyma-Lean, raisins or banana

    Dinner- Chicken Breast
    Salad
    Potato

    Water and lot's of it! 1 1/2-2 galloons per day

Why Do You Love Bodybuilding?

Bodybuilding is a lifestyle, and I enjoyed the discipline that lifestyle brings, it carry's over into other aspects of my life. What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

There's a lot I could cover with this question... I would say this: "Friend, live your dream, do not let anyone say you can't do it, you can! Create a mental picture of what you want to look like, get focused and go make it happen! I don't know about you but I'm leaving this world with no regrets! And when you have that body and have won trophies, remember the other people in the gym, those who now look up to you, share what you have learned and encourage them. You'll be bigger for it!
