How Did You Get Started?
I started ballet training at age 3 and basically
lived in a dance studio until I was 12 years old. At age 7, I would tag-along with my mom to her Jazzercise classes in my little ballet leotard, tights, and legwarmers.
I started watching all of the fitness shows, such as, Kiana Tom, Cory Everson, Body shaping, and Denise Austin at age 12. I begged my dad to buy me one of those SoloFlex machines that were really popular in the early 1990's, which he did.
I would also save up my allowance and every week buy a new workout tape and a heavier set of hand weights. Before I knew it, I developed my own little gym in my bedroom. Everyday throughout Jr. High and High School, I came home and worked out. At this point, I knew I was destined to have a career and lifestyle with health and fitness.
I left for college where I danced on the University's Dance Team, started teaching aerobics, and personal training. During my 4 years of college, I realized I wanted to compete and be a part of the fitness world like those I saw in Oxygen Magazine.
By the end of my college career, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology/Kinesiology and decided to leave my home-state of Wisconsin and head to South Florida. What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
The best workout plan that has worked for me
includes weight training 5 days a week and cardio training varies depending if I'm preparing for a show or not. During contest preparation, I'll do 2 separate cardio sessions, 7 days a week, totally to 60 minutes. I also teach classes so sometimes I make adjustments to my workouts accordingly.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
My body responds best to a high protein, low
carbohydrate, low-fat diet. I consume approximately
1.0-1.5 grams of protein per pound of body weight and consume vegetables for a majority of my carbohydrate intake with possibly 1-2 starches a day. I generally go through 2 huge heads of broccoli a day. I also drink between 1.5-2 gallons of water a day.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
Why Do You Love Fitness?
I love fitness for the pure simple fact of how it
makes me look and feel. I believe fitness and health are a lifestyle and it needs to be a part of your daily routine, from workouts to eating every 3 hours.
We are given only one body in our lifetime... might as well make it the healthiest, strongest, and sexiest body we can. What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
After competing in fitness for the last 4 years, I
am venturing over to the new figure division. I may possibly get back into the fitness division if the competitor turnout picks up. Right now I'm working with a photographer to jumpstart some fitness modeling and hoping that will take off, as well.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Fitness Competitors? Success is a marathon, not a sprint. So enjoy the process and the journey. Who Are Your Favorite Fitness Competitors/Bodybuilders? My favorite fitness/figure competitors are Kelly Ryan and Monica Brant. My FAVORITE bodybuilder is Jay Cutler! I've been completely infatuated with him for years. I actually had a picture taken with him during the 2003 NPC Fitness Nationals in Miami...I was like a little school girl with my first crush.
