How Did You Get Started?

Being a dancer since the age of three, a cheerleader in high school, and a choreographer for a few years after high school, I wanted to find a new ambition and goal to focus on after graduating from college. I attended an amateur bodybuilding, fitness and figure competition in November 2004 and decided that I wanted to compete in the figure division in the future.

I found a local National Qualifier competition in Minnesota and began my training in January 2005. I won the Women's Figure Short Class and Overall titles in my first show, The 2005 NPC Gopher State Classic in April. I then wanted to focus on a more prominent show to determine the level of my capabilities.

I subsequently competed and won the Women's Figure Short Class and Overall titles in my second show, The 2005 NPC Mr./Ms. Minnesota State Bodybuilding and Fitness/Figure Championship, in June.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

I have only been training for competitions for eight months so I have not tried many workout plans. I do have different workout plans for pre-contest and off-season training.

Pre-contest workout consists of:

Off-season workout consists of:

I feel as though it is important to let your body rest by taking a few days off during the week, otherwise your body will quickly become over trained and your progress will cease.

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

As I said in my previous answer, I have not been competing for very long so I do not know which nutrition plan works best for me yet. During my pre-contest, I cycled my carbs, starting high at the beginning of the week and almost eliminating them at the end of the week.

Currently, during the off-season my carbs are high and steady each day. I am really trying to determine what works best, so I am trying a new diet during the off-season. Hopefully with careful monitoring and planning I will find the right plan.

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

I do believe in the use of some supplements. However, I feel as though sometimes competitors try to rely on their use. Therefore, I stick to the basics when it comes to supplement use like whey protein, multivitamin's, vitamin C, B-complex and glucosamine.

Why Do You Love Fitness?

I love figure because of the feeling I get when I train and compete. Training for figure competitions makes me feel good about myself, and I also have more energy and ambition. Basically, training allows me to feel more empowered and confident in my abilities. I enjoy competing, and I have competed all my life through dance.

When I get on stage, I love the adrenaline rush because everyone sees how hard I have worked. The thing I like the most is achieving a goal that I have set for myself, and I intend to accomplish many more goals in the future.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

My immediate future figure plan is to compete in the 2006 NPC Junior USA's competition. My long-term plan is to become an IFBB Pro Figure competitor. After speaking with several people in the sport I feel as though I have a chance to become a top figure pro. I hope to obtain a sponsorship within the next year, and people can look for my own personal website in the near future.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Fitness Competitors?

The one tip I would give to other competitors is to compete and train solely for you. Always do what you think is best for you. Do not let other people influence you, your philosophy, or your beliefs. If you are not willing to go the extra mile for yourself, you will never reach your true potential. The only way you will succeed is to have faith and believe in yourself.

Who Are Your Favorite Fitness Competitors/Bodybuilders?

My favorite competitors are Jenny Lynn and Adela Garcia.

Jenny Lynn stands out to me because she is very successful at what she does both on and off stage.

I met Adela Garcia while competing at a figure competition. I felt she was very friendly, down-to-earth and committed to her sport. This is how I would like to be viewed by people. I hope they feel they can always approach me.

I would like to give special thanks to my family for all of their support through thick and thin. I could not have gotten where I am without them.
