How Did You Get Started?

About six years ago, I watched as my husband become serious about fitness and saw his body make significant improvements. I decided that I would join him and picked up the weights. Initially, I knew nothing about weightlifting, but with a little coaching, a lot of reading and a positive attitude, it became second nature. I dedicated myself to learning all aspects of proper nutrition, and began the ongoing journey to be the best I can be that I still enjoy today.

Once I saw the transformation my body made before me, it fueled my motivation to continue to improve and surpass old goals, only to adopt new, tougher ones. There is no better test of one's fortitude than to accomplish what you once believed impossible by using sheer determination, inner strength and passion for life.

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

I eat every 2.5 to 3 hours. I choose a variety of lean proteins, complex carbs and essential fats that keep me satisfied without feeling the urges to indulge in cheat meals. My diet changes based on what I am trying to achieve during the year. A maintenance diet that I would employ would consist of the following:

Why Do You Love Fitness?

The challenge of pushing yourself past limitations not only strengthens your body, but your mind and spirit as well. Setting goals, reaching milestones and always seeking improvement are traits that are practiced in fitness which directly carry over into my professional and private lives. Living a healthful lifestyle can show you that you can do anything in life that you put your mind to.

What Are Your Future Fitness Plans?

I am entering the 2009 competition season with improvements made over the winter. I am always happy to compete as I have the opportunity to meet so many people who I admire, no matter what placing they are given. I know the effort involved in preparing for each show and really appreciate each and every competitor's journey to arrive at the venue at their very best. What better motivation is there?

I would also like to appear in a fitness magazine this year, not looking for stardom, just reaching for one of those goals that I would never have dreamed of years ago.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Fitness Competitors?

Be consistent, be strong physically and more importantly be strong of character. Whatever you want is within your grasp, just have the courage to reach for it!

Who Are Your Favorite Fitness Competitors/Bodybuilders?

Davana Medina, Christine Pomponio-Pate, Timea Majorova... each of girls I have met at the shows I have done who are all inspirations in their own ways! Thanks girls!!
