How Did You Get Started?

I got started in August of 2010. I was cutting weight for an MMA fight. I went to my friend's tanning bed to stop and ask if he was coming to my fight. He then told me there was a bodybuilding show and, as the owner of Chic Tanning, he asked if I wanted a free spray tan so he could get practice for the many competitors on his appointment sheet that week.

As he was working, he said I looked like I was ready to compete in a bodybuilding show. I had never done something like that before, and I do not train using traditional bodybuilding methods. I do a lot of crossfit-style circuit training because it supplements my fighting needs. Ross, the tanning bed owner, said that if I would diet and practice posing for the remainder of the week that I could be a serious competitor.

I thought it would be a great experience and went ahead and let him coach me through the techniques and dieting. With only 6 days notice, I entered the novice class and placed 3rd. I never realized how important posing was. I thought having mass and striations was all that mattered until I learned the concept of illusion. Smaller guys were looking bigger than me because of their superior posing skills. I learned a lot that night. The next night I won my MMA match with the commentators wondering why I was so tan and ripped! After the fight I turned to the cameras, judges, and audience and started posing. I have since added the flexing into my fights!

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

A modified version of the Atkins diet has been working for me. I took what I learned through personal experience and made a diet plan that fits me. Everyone is different and I finally found a convenient eating plan that can provide all the nutritional and energy support my body needs to perform best. Low carbs, which are primarily from vegetables, and high protein, from supplemental shakes and bars as well as lean chicken and beef, seem to keep me strong, shredded, and satisfied with my body.

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

Most people say that it is the protein, creatine, or hormonal supplements that give them the greatest gains. I think it is the pre-workout supplement. As a professional athlete, I go through multiple training sessions per day. Pre-workout supplements make me excited to get to the gym and train. They make the day so much more fun. I look forward to the time I take my pre-workout because no matter how tired or sore I may be, these amazing supplements make all the pain and worries go away.

With pre-workout supplements providing extra motivation, power, and endurance, I must say that they contribute the most to my greatest gains. I am currently using the Cellucor C4 Extreme. It is very efficient and inexpensive. I also have been a huge fan of Optimum 100% Whey protein. It contains all the BCAA's I need and it tastes great.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

As a professional fighter and amateur bodybuilder, I like to provide motivation and inspiration to those who are struggling with their weight. Not only do those with extreme weight problems have to worry about health issues, but they also must face pressures like high standards of beauty created through magazines and television.

Fitness helps people get healthy, gain energy, and feel good about self image. If I practice what I preach through fitness and health eating habits, then I may become an advocate for others in the industry and convert more couch potatoes into superheroes!

What Motivates You To Follow A Healthy Lifestyle?

One thing that helps people in every aspect of life is confidence. From having confidence you can achieve much more than one who doubts. Women like a man with confidence. Employers want someone with this trait too because it is convincing that this person knows what they are doing. I think high confidence is highly correlated with a positive self-image. Having a healthy lifestyle to achieve the look you want comes with the benefit of gaining much confidence. This confidence is needed in today's highly competitive world.

What Made You Want To Achieve Your Goals?

The benefits of being a professional athlete help make me want achievement. I enjoy winning and glory lasts forever!

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

I want to be on Men's Fitness magazine! I am a part-time fire fighter in High Springs, Florida. I would love to develop a new innovative training method to specifically help the strenuous tasks completed by co-workers.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

Listen to others advice even if you do not agree with it. You may think you know it all but even the best bodybuilders and fitness celebrities are constantly learning new things every day.

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

I liked Chuck Norris. He started as a fighter, turned into a movie star, and then finished as a fitness celebrity. He is on numerous workout videos and infomercials. As a fighter and fitness enthusiast, I feel like I can relate most with Chuck Norris.
