How Did You Get Started?
I started working out when I was 16 yrs. old. Mostly running and lifting in a small gym where I grew up. I am very competitive so I can't stand someone doing something better so I remember a lot of arm wrestling and pushup competitions in high school. From there working out became a habit and part of my lifestyle and I'd be there at least 5x a week.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I think what works the best with me is anything consistent and heavy. I try to incorporate a lot of heavy compound movements while maintaining a good heart rate.
Some of my favorites like this include a heavy free weight squat to jump lunges or jumping box squats. Another favorite is to
superset a heavy bench press with pushups; every different version of a pushup that you can imagine.

I try to stick to the 80%/20% rule. 80% of the time I do what I'm supposed to, and 20% of the time I eat what I really want. I eat pretty clean and consistently all year so dieting for a show doesn't turn into weeks or months of torture. My last contest I dieted for 2 weeks.
I teach my clients to do the same. Develop a pattern of consistent eating habits that the body can depend on... when this is developed over time and consistency, your metabolism speeds up and becomes more efficient at utilizing calories.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
Food. I know that food is the most powerful drug in the world. There is no pill, potion, powder, exercise, gadget or gizmo that will change your body more than food will.
The two supplements that I do depend on for contest time and give me the greatest difference on stage is my dandelion and ulva ursi (Sea Nourishment) combination. I start adding them to my diet on Wednesday prior to a show, and have a little schedule I follow with them. I also include some B-Vitamins and lots of water.
Why Do You Love Fitness?
The challenge. I love having a goal for myself and trying to improve my own physique each time I step on stage. I always want to be improving my physique and skills.
Because fitness demands endurance, strength, agility, flexibility and stamina, it is always a huge challenge because it forces you to train for functionality, not just physical appearance.

My future plans include my small line of fitness clothing ("driven") being worn in every gym across the USA. I'd like to continue to compete and will do so as long as my body allows me to and as long as I can deliver a competitive package on stage. I think there will come a time when the body will just say, "no!!" and I'll have to make a decision to either stop competing or maybe try figure.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Fitness Competitors?
Compete for the love of competing. Compete against yourself and you will never lose. But at the end of the day, be a gracious winner or loser.

Kelly Ryan has always been my number one favorite; she is a class act. My other favorite is Marium Capes, a soon to be pro Canadian competitor. Marium, aside from her amazing show stealing routines has a very humble personality and has a lot to offer the sport in terms of both her skills, and stage presence.
