How Did You Get Started?
I have always been thin and physically active, but it wasn't until I met David (now my husband) in 1999, that I started weight training. Reflecting back on our first trip to the gym is pretty comical. I had never been to a real gym and he had me train legs with him. I remember wanting to die as I squatted a puny 20lb straight bar. I couldn't walk for about five days afterward and I loved it! The gym became a lifestyle for me. I did my first figure show in 2000. It was the Women's Tri Fitness and I took 2nd place! One point behind the first place girl! I was hooked! I went on that year to compete for the NPC and did my first NPC figure event in Anaheim, the Orange County Classic. I have been competing ever since! For more about me visit my web site: www.maryjocooke.com What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
Day 1: Back and Rears or Bi's Cardio: 7 days a week
Session #1: 60-80 minutes at 4:30am on an empty stomach
Session #2: 50-70 minutes in the evening or post training What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
I eat 6-8 meals evenly spaced throughout the day. My first meal is typically eaten after my first cardio session (6:30am). Depending on where I am at in my training season, my diet can vary considerably. But, a generic sample of my diet would look something like this: Do you have a trainer, or do you create your diet and training routines yourself? Yes, Kim Oddo!!! I starting working with Kim in October of 2005 and it was one of the best decision regarding my fitness career I have ever made. I could never have reached my current potential without his guidance and expertise. What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
I'm a firm believer and loyal consumer of the supplements that I take. I always make sure I research each product and company thoroughly to ensure quality ingredients and product claims. The most crucial supplements for me would be Protein Powder, Glutamine, BCAA's, EFA's, and a thermogenic for contest prep. Why Do You Love Fitness?
I love fitness for many reason, but most importantly for the positive impact that leading a healthy lifestyle has on my overall well being. As an individual sport, you have complete control over the entire competition process. That means that you are 100% accountable for the three "D's"... dedication, determination and the drive to be your personal best. Competition History: What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I'll be making my Pro Debut at the New York Pro in July. So, my new goal is to try and qualify for the 2006 Figure Olympia. What One Tip Would You Give Other Fitness Competitors? Set realistic goals, believe in yourself and never quit! Who Are Your Favorite Fitness Competitors/Bodybuilders? I am so fortunate to have met and become friends with so many amazingly wonderful athletes in the sport of fitness/figure and bodybuilding! These athletes are my friends, both old and new and they are my inspiration. If I had to list them all...well it would be a very long list (I love you guys!!!). However, I would like to say a very special thank you to someone who has been an inspiration to me for many years. She is an icon in the industry and she is one of the most genuine people I have ever had the pleasure of befriending. Thank you Jenny Lynn, for your guidance, wisdom, support and for simply being you! More Pictures!
