How Did You Get Started?
I have pretty much been involved in sports my entire life. My track coach in college had me doing serious weight workouts that were mainly focused around explosion techniques and circuit training. I fell in love with the weight room from there. It just felt so good with the sweat, strain and energy that went into the gym.
After college and my track career had ended, and being the competitive person I am, I needed another physical outlet. I got into more serious training and trying to learn as much as I could about nutrition and different workout styles. A girlfriend of mine started talking about this new division of figure. I lived in Orlando at the time and we went to see our first show in Tampa together. It was awesome and she started competing that next year, I on the other hand enjoyed being a spectator at the time and mainly focused on running and circuit training at the gym.
About two years later, my sister and I were helping my brother recover from a coma and needless to say things were somewhat stressful and I needed an outlet for myself. I went to a friend of mine to help me with a diet. I couldn't think of a better way to spend my spare time while helping my brother recover. After that, I was hooked on competing! My brother is doing great and is super supportive as well as the rest of my family.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I do a 5 day split, one body part on each day then take a day off and do a 3 day superset split. This is the workout I do for the majority of the year unless my trainer, Nick Varga of envy fitness tells me otherwise.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
While training for a show I tend to stick to 6 meals, possibly 7 depending on the day. I take in about 200 grams of protein and 75 grams of carbs split between those 6 -7 meals. During the off season I will usually bump up my carbs to about twice that maybe a little more.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
I love Pure Whey Protein, BCAA's, EFA's, and I couldn't live without Protein Delight while I'm dieting (I make protein pancakes with it). Having the pancakes at night for my last meal is the absolute best!
Why Do You Love Fitness?
I'd have to say I love the challenge, it's what motivates me. I love seeing the changes in my body from show to show. It's is such a great feeling to work extremely hard and to be able to see the results. I truly love this industry and the everyday challenges I face as well as all the wonderful people I meet. It's like having one great big family! And if I can help others along the way, then it's all worth it!
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
To continue competing and getting involved in everything that this industry has to offer, as well as making great friends along the way!
What One Tip Would You Give Other Fitness Competitors?
Stay positive, focused, motivated, know your goals and celebrate your victories big and small. Always choose to compete against yourself or compare yourself to you and what you want to accomplish. If you go in with this attitude and you make the changes you want from show to show then you will always come out a winner in your book no matter where the judges place you!
It's very important to have a positive self image and to do what makes you happy. I congratulate everyone for working their butts off and stepping on stage because each and every person looks great! Being healthy and leading a healthy fitness lifestyle should always be a positive thing!
Who Are Your Favorite Fitness Competitors/Bodybuilders?
There are so many women & men that I look up to. For me, I take things I admire, appreciate and respect from each person and combine them to make this ideal of 1 role model, in my mind.
A Quick Thank You! First, I thank God for giving me the ability to train like I do.
