How Did You Get Started?

I had always played sports since childhood, but now after having two young sons, ages 6 yrs. and 21 mos., I wanted to be a fit mom and feel good about myself. I became a certified group fitness instructor after my first child and was back in the gym 5 days after my second was born. Until then, I always admired the beautifully sculpted women in fitness magazines. In May of this year, I finally decided to stop wishing and just go for it. I entered my first figure competition in August and won. Since then, I won the NABF National Overall Figure Title in November and two weeks later, got the Overall Figure at the NPC Connecticut/Northeastern States Championships.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

  • Sun - Shoulders, Calves, Abs
  • Mon - Biceps, Triceps
  • Tues - Off
  • Wed - Glutes, Hams, Abs
  • Thurs - Quads, Calves
  • Fri - Back
  • Sat - Full Body, Abs
Cardio: 5-6 days/week 40 min. (Right before contest, cardio 2 times daily 30-40 min. each).

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

CONSISTENCY! During regular training, I eat high protein, moderate carbs and low fat. My calories average 1800-2000. I try to get the majority of my nutrients from whole foods. Pre-contest, my calories are cut by about 25% and I drop my carbs considerably.

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

Thermogenics, creatine and glutamine have given me the greatest gains.

Why Do You Love Fitness?

Because it's all about me. No really, as a full time mother, I truly appreciate my time at the gym. It is my sanctuary and the one place that I can control the outcome of my physique based on how I perform. There is nothing subjective about how hard you lift and what you feed your body. There aren't many things in life that offer that type of freedom. You have no one to answer to except yourself. The rush I get from working out is unparalleled and I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm with others.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

To earn my NPC/IFBB Pro Card in 2004 and to continue to improve my physique and still have fun doing it!

What One Tip Would You Give Other Fitness Competitors?

Here is a wonderful quote that sums it up: Above all, always believe in yourself. A good friend once told me, "When you walk out on that stage, you are it." Project confidence, not arrogance. Be proud of what you've accomplished. Most people will never be on a competition stage, just that feat alone is outstanding.

Who Are Your Favorite Fitness Competitors/Bodybuilders?

Jenny Worth is amazing. Due to her thyroid condition, she has to work harder than most competitors. She is a true inspiration, a great performer and has a fantastic physique. I would love to meet her some day!
