How Did You Get Started?

Since 3rd grade I've been involved in sports. In that one year I began cheerleading, joined the jump rope team at school, and signed up for gymnastics. Being such a shy little girl, it's amazing how much I loved performing. It was over from the start!

My senior year of high school, I tried out and made the Varsity Cheerleading squad. The entire summer before school started we practiced cheers in the mornings and lifted weights in the football team's gym in the afternoons. I was very pleased with the changes and shape the lifting created with my physique and never put the weights back down.

I got married in July of 2004. My husband has previously competed in bodybuilding competitions and was able to show me the ropes. We were married 10 months when I first stepped on stage. I LOVED IT! I started in an organization that required a softer look since I had not built up my body yet. I did fairly well, but in another year and a half, I decided to step on the NPC stage. I now refer to that stage as my home!

Competition History in the NPC:

  • April 07 Upper Ohio Valley. 1st Place and Overall Fitness. 3rd Place Figure
  • May 07 Pittsburgh BB, Figure & Fitness 1st Place Fitness
  • June 08 Jr. Nationals 8th Place (But 5th in physique rounds might I add)
  • July 08 Pittsburgh Collegiate Fitness 1st Place

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

I've tried many different methods of training. The one that works best for me is simple, old school, progression training. I go by the 10 week size surge program. I do only one to two work sets per exercise keeping my range from 7-9. I currently have split my workouts into two days and alternate those every other day. During contest preparation, I simply add cardio to my training as well as routine practice. For me, whatever I do to build the muscle, I do to maintain the muscle.

Example:

  • Monday: Workout 1
  • Tuesday: Off
  • Wednesday: Workout 2
  • Thursday: Off
  • Friday: Workout 1
  • Saturday: Off
  • Sunday: Workout 2

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

My body works best with having high protein and low carbs. I've tried carb loading for a show and my body did not like it. My muscles responded by looking completely smooth. For 2009, I just plan to stick with the original plan of high protein and low carb with lots of vegetables and give myself more time in my contest prep mode to come in with a leaner look!

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

BCAA & Creatine, I also have an addiction to MetRX Big 100 Bars (More Specifically Colossal Super Cookie Crunch)

Why Do You Love Fitness?

I love fitness because it gives people the ability to take control of their lives. It's given me the opportunity to do something I never thought I could do, as well as share my knowledge with others so that they too could experience the same feeling. Whether I've been able to help someone lose weight, motivate them to start working out, or giving the confidence to a new competitor to step on stage for the first time. It's a very rewarding field!

What Are Your Future Fitness Plans?

Every year I've gotten better and better. I have a strong belief that muscle maturity and competition experience play a great role in a competitors success. For 2009, my goal is to step on the national stage again and place in the top five! That would be a major accomplishment for me and I would be so proud of myself! I want to bring in a tighter physique and routine to knock the judges right out of their seats! STAY TUNED!

What One Tip Would You Give Other Fitness Competitors?

Go for your dreams! Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something! If there's a will, there's a way! Just get online and do some research! Find a mentor for support! They can also help you get prepared so you have the confidence you need to step on stage! I've found SiouxCountry.com to be a great forum to meet fellow competitors and find the support and information you need to be successful! It's like one big happy family there!
