Our Over 40 Bodybuilder of the Week was...

How Did You Get Started?
For as long as I can remember I have been working out. Since my mom and dad purchased some plastic coated cement weights. I used those weights for about 10 years until I could afford to go to a real gym with real weights. 10 years later (now in my 30's) I still didn't have a clue as to what I was doing. It was then that I met my wife, Adelia, and she "showed me the way." She ate clean, and she knew some very well known people in the drug tested INBF/WNBF organization. We decided to do our first show together in 1998, and I was in love, not only with her but with the natural physique. Since then, I have competed in over 20 shows, receiving many 1st places in many of them. Still at the age of 48, I am still on top of my game and loving every minute of it. I continued my education in physical fitness, received my certification in 2000 and now train other individuals for a number of reasons. Be it getting ready for a competition or simply because they want to increase the quality of their life. I was never overweight as a child. I was a hard gainer...always skinny throughout my high school years. What did I know, it was 3 meals a day...cereal in the morning, sandwiches in the afternoon and a big plate of pasta in the evening. It is one of those things, "If only I knew then what I know now!" It wasn't until I reached the tender age of 35 that I wanted a nice physique, one with abs! The first show I did in 1997 took 16 weeks to get ready for. It was tough...I had to lose 25 pounds, but I did it. Now, I keep myself relatively lean throughout the year never going above 7% body fat. This allows me to start prepping for a show as close as 8 weeks away and also allows for a few cheat meals along the way. What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

Why Do You Love Bodybuilding? I have learned a lot over the years and to be able to share that knowledge with others has been a blessing. When I see the smiles on a client's face from just competing, or simply from losing a few pounds, I know that I have made a difference in that person's life. It also keeps me focused on my long term plan of living to a ripe old age! What Motivates You To Follow A Healthy Lifestyle?
My focus is not so much on immaterial things anymore, but now it is more about living a better quality of life. With a 7 year old son, I have to be a good role model for him...and I must be able to stay healthy during his youthful years when father-son bonding is important. What Made You Want To Achieve Your Goals?
First I entered one of those magazine contests. You know - the one where you can win a Lamborghini. That was my motivation to get started, because I really wanted that car! I would have pictures of it on my basement wall where I was working out just as a reminder as to "why I am doing this". Well, I didn't win but I did finish...one of only 4% that did complete the challenge. This was back in 1996, now 14 years later I have educated myself and compete on a regular basis. What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans? Continue my education in fitness, continue educating others and ultimately make the transition of training clients on a full time basis out of my studio. I plan on competing until the day I die and hopefully that is not for a very long time! What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders? Never give up, never put the blame on others, and be realistic in your goals. Take every failure and turn that into a learning tool so that every moment after that will bring you one step closer to success. Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders? Frank Zane for his physique, Jack Lalanne for his ability to promote good health and vitality throughout his life. What Features Do You Use On Bodybuilding.com?
