How Did You Get Started?
As a lifetime athlete, I played soccer and softball growing up. Between
fishing seasons in Alaska I would come home to Washington and train. After
a short time weight training, a lot of my friends convinced me that I had
the potential to step on stage. I hesitantly agreed and placed fifth in my
first show. Once getting that first timer stage experience over with I knew
I had to try again and come in even better the next time. I came out the
following year and won three straight shows!
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I tend to do more than I need to. I enjoy going as heavy as possible with
as high intensity as possible. I am in the gym working with weights at
least five days a week, cardio for six.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
I try to stay as lean as I can in the off season, my physique responds best
for me this way. A sample day in my off season:
Meal 1
5 egg whites
1 Whole Wheat tortilla w/ salsa
Meal 2
Protein shake
Meal 3
5 0z. lean protein in salad
1/2 cup cooked brown rice
Meal 4
same as meal 3
Meal 5
5 oz. lean protein
vegetables (zucchini is a favorite)
I also throw in a good measure of almonds and keep my fluids high throughout
the day to curb the cravings. Off season, I will enjoy occasional cheat
meals but eliminate them as soon as I am focused towards a show.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
Basically all of the modern staples. Whey protein, a good solid vitamin and
some pre-workout arginine seem to work the best for me.
Why Do You Love Fitness?
You only have one body, why not build it, love it and take care of it. If
you do, you're body will take care of you the rest of the way.
What Are Your Future Fitness Plans?
I hope to find myself once again on a National level stage. I competed at
the USA's in 2006 and found out what it takes to do a REAL show. A higher
level of competition combined with a professional attitude by everyone
involved really stoked my competitive fire.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Fitness Competitors?
No matter where you go or what you do, always make sure you remember who you
are and where you started from. This all should remain fun and never take
precedence over what is truly meaningful in your life.
Who Are Your Favorite Fitness Competitors/Bodybuilders?
Jenny Lynn, Monica Brant, Dave Henry to name a few
