Our Over 40 Bodybuilder of the Week was...
Tim Wescott
How Did You Get Started?
I got started while in junior high school when I met a classmate who trained with a competitive bodybuilder. Worked out off and on ever since. Got really serious about it again in 1993 when I moved to Florida, at 40 years of age. Personal Site: Weights On The Web = http://www.geocities.com/timbuktuweights/. What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I train each body part once a week, and never do the exact same workout twice in a row. This way, my body doesn't have much of a chance to adapt to a routine, and exercise variety is almost endless.
I train as heavy as possible for my rep target and keep cheating to a minimum working more for "feel." What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
I eat 6-8 times a day depending on my goals. High protein, moderate to low carbs, and moderate to low fats. I cycle carbs, and eat every 2.5 -3 hours. Two shakes or less per day, as I feel solid food is a much better choice. I find now that I'm older, my body is much more "carb sensitive" and low carbs are a must if I want to get cut. What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains? I am not big on taking a lot of esoteric supplements, or every hyped up one that comes along but stick mostly to the time tested ones that are effective. I take the basics: whey protein, creatine, glutamine, vitamins, lecithin, zinc, lots of vitamin C and lots of food and water. Why do you love Bodybuilding? I love bodybuilding because it literally saved my life! I was an alcoholic and drug user for about 33 years, and missed around 11 years of training... 7 of them in a row. Bodybuilding has enabled me to overcome this obstacle. I went from severe body abuse, to being almost obsessed with the sport; it's a healthy obsession though and I recommend it to anyone regardless of their goals. It also enables me to look and feel much younger than I really am. What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I plan to compete for as long as I am able to. I have done over 30 contests and have amassed 53 trophies so far! What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders? Be patient and gains will come - experiment with different training and nutrition protocols until you find out what tactics work the best for you. Work hard, eat correctly, have a balanced life, and you can't go wrong. Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?
Modern day: Dave Henry and Ahmad Haider. Past legends: Arnold and Lee Labrada among others.
