How Did You Get Started?
I started bodybuidling because I was never really good in any sports, but I
loved to lift weights ever since I first stepped into a gym. A friend of
mine was really into bodybuilding and got huge one winter and entered his first show that year and came in second. I knew I wanted to do the same.
With a ton of setbacks, I finally did it five years later and placed 3rd in the Tested Quebec Physique men's bantam class, Saturday, April 9th. It was a dream come true and I can't wait to enter my next show.
All these years I had never gotten my diet straight until now (with the help
of Bodybuilding.com), I was one of those guys that trained hard but never
ate enough. Now I eat like there's no tomorrow and I hope to put on some
more lean weight for my next show.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I like to do volume training and I avoid too much power and strength. The times I got injured were the times I tried to lift heavy (1 rep max).
For each exercise, I'll do one warm-up set (15-20 reps), then 3 sets (10-10-8) What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
I'm a hardgainer. Had I known more about nutrition years ago I'd be a lot heavier today. I learned most of what I know now last year before competing. I'd never get enough calories in my diet, never enough protein or carbs.
I'd eat 3 meals a day and I'd drink shakes with regular 100% whey that I'd digest in no time.
Now I understand I need the right amounts of everything and the right kinds of protein. I've gone from .5g of protein per pound of body weight to 1.5g and I try to get 2g of carbs per pound of bodyweight.
I take a casein shake before going to bed and I have glutamine at every meal.
The diet was the tuff part. A learning process. I went on a low carb diet and lost a lot more mass than I wanted to lose. Next year I'll apply new things I've learned to try and stay lean and not lose too much muscle.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains? Muscle Juice Gainer powder, glutamine, and creatine. Why do you love Bodybuilding? Greatest sport in the world. The sport of Gods. Many are called, but few are chosen. What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
Next year I want to jump 2 to 3 weight classes, I'm not staying a bantam one more year. I'd like to be a heavyweight in the next few years. Who knows maybe go to nationals one day...
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Leave the ego outside the gym.
Never give up, I know a lot of guys that like to talk, but can't follow a diet more than a day.
I you really want something, you'll do it. Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders? Markus "the Ruhl deal" Ruhl, Jay "A cut above" Cutler, Arnold, Franco, and new Canadian pro Frank McGrath (greatest forearms in the sport).
