How Did You Get Started?
I started working out about 2 years after I graduated High School. I was never really into sports - I was just naturally very active. I've always loved walking, bike riding, running, swimming, dancing, anything that required no sitting! Some people would describe me as hyper-active!
Being petite my entire life, I reached a point where I was tired of being called "skinny Minnie". I joined a gym (Bally's) in 1997 on a mission to develop muscles and strength. Little did I know, I was about to embark on something so much bigger. Not only did my body start transforming, I grew in ways I never would have, had I not joined that day. What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I work out 5 days a week and do cardio every time I train. Usually, I start with 25 minutes on the treadmill or Elliptical machine. (I jump rope 25 minutes every Saturday) I split my work out into 2 muscle groups per session. I train Legs/Glutes twice a week, everything else generally, once a week. I change it up every few weeks, to keep it interesting and keep my body guessing!
Here's one example:
I use a mix of machines and free weights. I like using free weights and my own body weight the most. I get the best results this way. For me, it's really important to have that mind - body connection. I clear my mind of everything else when I'm at the gym.
It's my time to focus on only me. I figure it this way; there are 24 hours in a day, it's perfectly okay to take 2 hours (maximum) out of those 24 - to think of nothing else but myself. There is nothing better than leaving the gym after a kick-ass workout! That feeling can not be put it into words. What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
I keep my eating plan pretty simple. I drink lots of H2O!!! I keep my carbs pretty low and I try to stay away from sugar all together. I eat about 100 grams of protein a day.
Here is an example of my eating plan:
I'm very disciplined - Monday through Saturday. So, come Sunday, watch out! It's my only "cheat day". On Sunday, I eat whatever I want. Usually, I'll have a cheeseburger or a piece of pepperoni pizza or chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream! (I'm only human) What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains? I have 2 Whey Protein shakes a day. I also take a 'one a day' vitamin, Beta Carotene, Vitamin E and Flax seed oil. That's about it. Why Do You Love Fitness? It's so rewarding! I love challenging myself. It's not only physically satisfying, it's also mentally satisfying. It keeps me young and healthy - inside and out! I love how I look and how I feel. It makes me an all around positive, cheerful person. I have learned so much about myself, both physically, mentally, and spiritually. What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
If the opportunity to do professional fitness modeling ever presented itself I'd be up for that! I may enter a local "amateur" fitness competition just to see where I'm at. For now, I am completely satisfied with doing what I'm doing. If I can inspire or motivate others in the process, that's just one more positive thing I can do.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Fitness Competitors? Don't lose sight of why you're doing this to begin with. I know a lot of hard work and time is put into this type of lifestyle, so remember to keep it fun as well as challenging! That way you don't lose yourself. "Through Dedication, Determination and Desire, you can achieve anything you set your heart and mind on." Always remember to thank God for being blessed with the gift to inspire others. Who Are Your Favorite Fitness Competitors/Bodybuilders? I admire all athletes. However, if I have to chose... Monica Brant, Timea Majorova and Jenny Worth are all incredible competitors.
